MedCycle Network: Transforming Medical Surplus into Health Access
Introducing MedCycle Network
Every year, millions of Americans struggle without adequate healthcare because they lack insurance or resources. At the same time, billions of dollars' worth of medical supplies and equipment are unused, ending up in landfills instead of clinics where they could save lives. At MedCycle Network, we're dedicated to changing this narrative, and here's how we're making it happen.
Who We Are
MedCycle Network was founded with a simple yet powerful mission: to improve community health and environmental sustainability by redirecting high-quality surplus medical supplies to local safety-net clinics.
Our co-founders—Eric Talbert, Andy Pines, and Ernesto Olivares—bring together decades of combined experience in nonprofit leadership, healthcare finance, logistics, and humanitarian aid. Their vision is clear: no surplus medical resource should ever be wasted when it can help save lives.
Founded to be a key local partner in medical resource distribution, MedCycle Network leverages cutting-edge technology to efficiently redistribute surplus medical supplies to support community clinics.
What We Do
We're tackling healthcare inequity head-on by addressing two critical issues simultaneously: medical surplus and healthcare access. Hospitals frequently replace supplies due to vendor changes or excess inventory. Rather than letting valuable equipment and supplies go unused, MedCycle Network ensures these resources reach local clinics, enabling them to serve communities more effectively. Our model strengthens healthcare access, supports clinic budgets, and dramatically reduces environmental impact.
How We Do It
Our approach is innovative yet simple. Through a transparent and community-focused platform, regional hospitals donate surplus supplies, which are then efficiently redistributed to safety-net clinics right here in our neighborhoods. Clinics select exactly what they need, ensuring maximum impact from every donation.
For instance, at Clinic by the Bay, vital items such as gloves, glucometers, and emergency care supplies directly improve patient outcomes and reduce operational burdens. Nurse Karen shared, "We feel very blessed to be in this partnership with MedCycle."
At Oakland’s Roots Community Health STOMP program, our supplies immediately benefit unhoused individuals, providing essential care exactly when and where it's needed most. Dr. Danielle Williams emphasizes, "Having these supplies readily available removes a huge barrier in delivering care."
The San Francisco Free Clinic leverages our donations to expand their ability to provide critical preventive care, dramatically lowering their operational costs and increasing their reach. Dr. Ian describes the impact succinctly, "Every donated glove or medical supply translates directly into enhanced patient care.”
UCSF Heath - Mission Bay and El Camino Health generously donated these surplus medical supplies. MedCycle Network is developing partnerships across California to build sustainable, scalable solutions to surplus medical supply distribution to strengthen local health ecosystems.
