A Delivery That Makes a Difference: MedCycle Network Supports Clinic by the Bay

Every morning, hardworking men and women walk through the doors of Clinic by the Bay, relying on its promise of free, high-quality healthcare. Located in the heart of San Francisco's Excelsior neighborhood the clinic serves thousands who are uninsured and underserved, offering hope, dignity, and essential medical care to those who might otherwise go without.

The Partnership and Its Promise

MedCycle Network formed an impactful new partnership with Clinic by the Bay to redirect high-quality medical surplus supplies from local hospitals directly to clinics serving the community. This partnership quickly translated into a meaningful, tangible delivery that significantly boosted the clinic’s ability to provide care.

Impact in Action

Karen Fenton, a registered nurse and Clinic Manager with 37 years of experience, supervises all patient care at the clinic. She spoke passionately about the difference MedCycle Network’s delivery made on just one remarkable day:

“We had an amazing delivery of gloves—something we desperately needed. Gloves are essential for nearly every aspect of patient care, and they’re surprisingly expensive. Every dollar spent on supplies is a dollar less for direct patient care. Thanks to this delivery, we're stocked for quite some time, allowing us to redirect precious resources back to our patients.”

She continued, highlighting the personal touch this delivery provided:

“Our new dentist, Dr. Adrienne Wong, needs smaller gloves, and our nurse practitioners and physicians mostly need large gloves. MedCycle Network delivered exactly the sizes we required. It sounds small, but having the right supplies at hand makes all the difference in patient care.”

Life-Saving Supplies for Everyday Needs

MedCycle Network’s delivery also included an emergency crash cart, glucometers, and blood pressure monitors for home use—supplies Karen emphasized are not just useful, but critical:

“Having a crash cart readily accessible is a game changer. Before, emergency supplies were stored in a large box, which isn't ideal in an emergency. Now, we can respond swiftly and confidently.”

Olga Ayala, Interim Executive Director at Clinic by the Bay, explained the transformative impact of receiving glucometers:

“Our patients primarily struggle with chronic conditions like diabetes. MedCycle Network’s donation of glucometers allows our patients to monitor their health at home—something they simply couldn’t afford otherwise. It's empowering and potentially life-saving.”

Advancing the Mission, Together

The alignment between Clinic by the Bay and MedCycle Network is clear. Both organizations prioritize dignity, respect, and high-quality care for underserved communities. Clinic by the Bay operates under the inspiring ethos of Volunteers in Medicine, utilizing an often-overlooked workforce—retired healthcare professionals—to serve with compassion and expertise.

Karen summarized the impact succinctly: “We feel very blessed to be in this partnership with MedCycle Network.” Olga echoed this sentiment, noting, “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity and compassion that Andy, Eric, and Ernesto from MedCycle Network showed today. Their partnership allows us to expand our reach and deepen our impact.”

UCSF Heath - Mission Bay and El Camino Health generously donated these surplus medical supplies. MedCycle Network is developing partnerships across California to build sustainable, scalable solutions to surplus medical supply distribution to strengthen local health ecosystems.
