Turning Surplus into Support

When compassion meets sustainability, powerful things happen

The San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) has spent 154 years providing high-quality healthcare, housing, and supportive services to older adults. With a mission rooted in the Jewish values of compassion, community, and excellent care, SFCJL has long been a trusted sanctuary for individuals navigating the later chapters of life, regardless of background or circumstance.

Now, through a new partnership with MedCycle Network, SFCJL is bringing more hope and health to its residents and staff while advancing a model of care that supports people and the planet.

On a recent afternoon, a MedCycle Network van pulled up to the SFCJL campus. Inside: box after box of high-quality, surplus medical supplies donated by local hospitals and health systems.

Each item donated told a story of thoughtful reuse—thousands of gloves and face shields to protect caregivers, and fingertip blood oxygen meters (also known as digital pulse oximeters) to help clinical teams monitor residents’ vital signs quickly and accurately.

"By donating surplus medical equipment, MedCycle Network is not only reducing waste, but they are also empowering nonprofits like SFCJL to focus resources where they’re needed most: supporting vulnerable older adults. It’s about turning excess into impact.” — Dr. Adrienne Green, CEO, SFCJL

Why It Matters

Healthcare costs are rising, and the needs of older adults are becoming more complex. For a nonprofit like SFCJL where long-term residents, short-term rehab patients, and people living with memory loss all receive tailored support, every supply makes a real difference.

Through this partnership, SFCJL can redirect funds toward the human side of care: staff, programs, and quality-of-life improvements.

This partnership reminds us that when we combine compassion with sustainability, we not only protect our seniors—we honor them.” — Steven Fayne, Board Chair, SFCJL

Turning Extras into Essentials

MedCycle Network’s model is elegantly simple: collect usable medical surplus from healthcare facilities and deliver it directly to nonprofits that need it. In doing so, they reduce medical waste while addressing critical gaps in community healthcare.

Here’s how this model benefits organizations like SFCJL:

Protects frontline workers with essential PPE

Reduces operational costs, freeing up funds for mission-driven programs

Promotes sustainability by keeping valuable resources out of landfills

Our mission is to transform medical surplus into health access,” said Eric Talbert, CEO and Co-Founder of MedCycle Network. “We’re proud to support SFCJL as they continue their legacy of care and innovation in San Francisco.”

This partnership reflects the shared values at the heart of both organizations: dignity, sustainability, and respect for each individual. It’s about making sure every person, staff member, and family feels seen, supported, and protected—especially our older adults.

As SFCJL continues to innovate and serve, MedCycle Network stands ready to deliver, ensuring that no resource goes unused when it can change a life.
