From the Hospital Floor to the Community Clinic Door with UCSF Health
A simple goal with important impact: Identify, Collect, and Redistribute. UCSF Health has teamed up with MedCycle Network to streamline their medical surplus to strengthen the existing local health ecosystem. This isn't just about moving boxes of supplies; it’s about making a tangible difference in patient care within our community.
This partnership is proof that environmental sustainability and healthcare equity go hand-in-hand.
Clinics Save Thousands: By offsetting the cost of everyday essentials like gloves, gowns, and gauze, community clinics can redirect those funds toward their services and mission.
Environmental Footprint Shrinks: We are actively redistributing medical surplus and reducing the related carbon footprint.
Care is Expanded: Last year, MedCycle Network delivered over $1.6 million in medical surplus, supporting thousands of neighbors without health insurance.
A Greener, Healthier San Francisco Bay Area
"Beyond the Bin" is more than a slogan; it’s a commitment to our community. As Isabel Navarrete, Sustainability Analyst at UCSF Health, highlighted at the Social Impact Forum, these collaborations are essential for building a more resilient local health ecosystem.
A box of surplus masks is transformed from an issue to be dealt with, into a resource for a community clinic partner like the Women’s Clinic in the historical San Francisco Women’s Building. So the next person who walks through their doors to receive a check-up will be protected, as will the clinic staff member.
