A Day of Hands, Hearts, and Hope: MedCycle Network Hosts First Volunteer Session

On Thursday, September 25, MedCycle Network’s first Volunteer Session added to the positive energy at the Wilma Chan Family Resource Center in Hayward Acres—one fueled by purpose, community, and a whole lot of heart. Music played while volunteers, laughing and chatting, worked to assemble personal hygiene kits from the stacked up supplies.

This hands-on event marked a meaningful new step in our mission: empowering everyday people to help redistribute surplus medical supplies into the hands of clinics that need them most.

“Our new partnership with MedCycle Network is an exciting way to not only bring much needed resources to the community, but to also bring community in to the Wilma Chan Family Resource Center. We are grateful to be able to host and look forward to many more opportunities to work together in the future!” Amani Dunham, Coordinator, Student Support Services, San Lorenzo Unified School District.

Turning Compassion Into Action

Volunteers sorted and prepped medical supplies donated by UCSF Health and CommonSpirit Health—two of our earliest and most generous hospital partners. These high-quality surplus items, including wound care products, gloves, and hygiene materials, will soon be delivered to local safety-net clinics based on their specific requests.

But this wasn’t just about organizing boxes. It was about turning surplus into support, and care into community.

A Shared Sense of Purpose

The Wilma Chan Family Resource Center proved to be the perfect space for our first sort session—welcoming, well-lit, and located in the heart of a community that understands the power of mutual care. As supplies moved from truck to table to kit, there was a tangible feeling in the air: this is what it looks like when neighbors come together to take care of each other.

Eric Talbert, MedCycle Network’s CEO & Co-Founder shared his thoughts during a break in the action: “This is just the beginning. Every box sorted today will travel to a clinic soon, helping a neighbor in need. Our volunteers aren’t just helping—they’re healing.”

Why It Matters

This event wasn’t just about supplies—it was about engagement, education, and empowerment. In a single afternoon, we were reminded of how much can be accomplished when people are given a way to make a tangible difference. Every item sorted and every kit packed helps extend the life of medical resources, reduce landfill, and support dignity-centered care for underserved communities.

Today it was important for us to come together and donate our time in support of MedCycle Network’s mission—it was also fun.” Marsh Felton, Lead Volunteer
